AKA President Makes Questionable Purchases

A $900,000 wax statue of herself, shopping sprees, HD television set...if Barbara McKinzie were the government we'd call it stimulus. As she's the president of a national sorority for African-Americans, its just the most hilarious case of theft and embezzlement I've seen this week.

This is your first posting in 63 days and this is the best you can do? RIP, The Dartmouth Review.

The Huff Post and Aol.com have picked up this story, but nobody from the MSM. Curious...

Now could you maybe put back the posts and comments you've been editing/censoring? Thanks...

Why is the modifier "for African Americans" in any way relevant? Would it be somehow less hilarious if it was the national president of KKG or DG or some other traditionally white sorority commissioning a statue of herself?

John -- good point. Regardless of race, the situation is ridiculous.

My mistake for valuing precision over the possibility that someone would take offense. Alpha Kappa Alpha is the first sorority established for African-American women. That is the definition of the organization. If we'd all feel better had I merely said "a sorority" or "an organization for college women" or "a group of people", I apologize. By being more exact I didn't realize I was pouring salt in a festering wound.

Don't be a jerk. If you were interested in "accuracy" you could also have mentioned that AKA was founded at Howard in 1908, that it has 975 chapters, that its colors are salmon pink and apple green, or any other historical factoid. Facts are facts, but choosing to mention any specific one is a political act, isn't it? I repeat what I said: If this was KKG, would you have mentioned that it was a traditionally white sorority? I think not, and that's part of the problem - so often in America, black institutions are black, white institutions are simply "normal."

The post can be read to imply that the embezzlement is related to McKinzie's race. If Phil had written "the president of Alpha Kappa Alpha, a national African-American sorority," he would have provided useful identifying details for readers who'd never heard of AKA or thought he was talking about AXA. It is not "political" to identify a national African-American sorority as "a national African-American sorority," and anyone who thinks Dartmouth's chapters of AKA and DG actually have equal numbers (or equal nonblack/nonwhite memberships) is deluding himself.

By that standard, any news at all is political.

I mean good grief, the headline in the Telegraph article on the wax statue reads as follows: "President of black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha sued over expenses"

What bone would the Telegraph have to pick? She's being sued by members of the sorority; I can't imagine what political aim the Telegraph might have.

The way it's phrased: "As she's president of a sorority for African Americans" connotes that her being president of an AFRICAN AMERICAN sorority is what makes the story humorous (i.e. she's president of of an organization composed of members of a class that is under-priveleged in the United States; who know such an org would HAVE $900,000. ha-ha) If the author had said, "As she's president of the Ivy League Club," what would make that funny? Racism is subtle and deadly.

The time for lovers is always precious and easily elapses from fingers. Since then, why not record the happy time with chic accessory. Designer couple watch is the best keepsake for lovers to memorize their happiness. However, the original high-end couple watches are all sold at hefty prices which are usually far beyond the reach of many couples.cheap replica watch In that case, I highly recommend you to buy quality replica designer couple watch.
