Official Response from North Dakota
Below is North Dakota Governor John Hoeven's (Dartmouth '79) official response to Josie Harper's astounding apology for the University of North Dakota's participation in next month's hockey tournament.

My question for Dartmouth is would you allow a team from Wisconsin-Madison to play at your school? They have kicked Campus Crusade for Christ off of their campus (as has Wisconsin-Superior) stictly because they are a Christian organization.
You fear preceived discrimination against Native Americans by North Dakota. How do you feel about real discrimination against Christians by Wisconsin-Madison?
It is utterly preposterous for an administrator at a college in New Hampshire to comment on Indian affairs. Is there actually an Indian left who is really a permanent resident of New Hampshire? We have honored our Indian citizens by naming over half of the States after them. North Dakota is one of them, unlike New Hampshire which was named after some God forsaken county in England! My goodness, even your New England neighbors in Connecticut managed to round up enough guys to form a board of directors for a casino! But you people are like the denizens of Delaware, who have plenty of Du Ponts, but no Delawares. Perhaps Ms. Harper would find our campus in Tucson more congenial. Adobe and red tile, palm trees and real Cowboys and Indians! Also a really bad football team, but on Saturday afternoons she could visit Tombstone to watch a shoot-out at the OK Coral! Its 85F today. The sad fact is that I wish I had not sent in this year's donation to the college. I am astounded by our AD's letter; what the heck is she thinking about?
