Peter Robinson '79 and Todd Zywicki '88 have been elected to Dartmouth College's Board of Trustees, The Dartmouth Review has learned. A source with knowledge of the results, who has asked to remain anonymous until the news is official, confirmed that the two petition candidates were elected in a six-way race.
Update—5:45 PM: The College has officially announced their election, a day earlier than expected.
Nearly a quarter of Dartmouth's alumni—over 15,000—voted in the election. Robinson garnered support from 7,376 alumni, roughly 48 percent of the total, and Zywicki earned 6,844 votes, 45 percent of voters.
In the press release, College President James Wright said he looked forward to working with the two men, who "both have a deep affection for Dartmouth."

Let me make it a bit stronger. I am a not-so-recent grad (A.M. Physics, 1965) with a daughter who is a Sophomore in high school. This apparent result, plus Dartmouth's favorable response to FIRE ( http://www.thefire.org/index.php/article/5621.html/print ) makes it much more likely that she will be applying for admission to the Big Green! Wah-hoo-wah!!!

A total of 15,334 individuals, some 24.3 percent of Dartmouth's total alumni body, cast a total of 35,107 votes under the multiple-voting procedure of the nomination process. Robinson received 7,376 votes, and Zywicki received 6,844.
In this moment of triumph, let's be mindful of poor Professor Ackerman, for whom today must be a gloomy day indeed. Her efforts to hold the line at Dartmouth have been for naught, thanks to this triumph of -- what was her choice phrase? -- oh yes, "reactionary ideologies."
All is not lost for the good professor, however; she still has many options. Like this, for instance. Or this. Or this. Or this. Ah, the wonders of Google!
Please forgive me for this obvious rubbing-it-in, but it's simply too tempting to pass up. ("Reactionary ideologies"... sheesh. What a silly and arrogant thing to say.)
I thought it curious that "The candidates" section of the ASD website listed six names, but their "Contact the candidates" area only listed four. Looks like their disingenous approach backfired. The winners - and the entire College - have indeed been contacted by the alumni!
I'd be curious to know how close the "official" candidates were.
It'd be interesting to see whether ASD's suggestion to vote for the entire official slate as a block actually occured or not. I'm guessing not since the two petition candidates were not marked by more than 50% of the voters, yet still won.
The Libertarians of the State of New Hampshire congratulate Zywicki and Robinson on their election victories.
Hopefully Wright will get a clue and leave, so that more rational, responsible, and balanced leadership can steer Dartmouth back to a harmonious relationship with the people of New Hampshire.
And I hope that twit Geoff Berlin doesn't send me any more emails... ever. My only wish is that he get involved with Tom DeLay's reelection campaign.
